Join us as we chat to Kelly Hudson, Founder of Nom Nosh, the new subscription box service offering sumptuous vegan snacks and drinks to power the body and mind.
“We are really passionate about treating your body to wholesome plant-based goodness but understand that this is not always easy or convenient, so we do the hard work for you. All of our products undergo rigorous taste tasting as well as scouring those ingredients list for any nasties. We try to avoid added sugars, preservatives or additives and focus on raw natural sugar and sustainable vegan products so you can just sit back, relax and enjoy your box in the knowledge that you’re fuelling your body with the ultimate goodness.
Have you always seen yourself as a business owner/ self-employed?
Not at all. I’m someone that has never believed in myself or my ideas. However, when Covid hit last March, I was pregnant with my 2nd baby and I’m not sure if it was the hormones or just pure delirium, but I decided now was the right time to launch a new business (an idea that I’d been toying with for a while). I just thought – what the hell do I have to lose and went for it. Turns out it was the best decision I’ve ever made.
Nom Nosh promotes a healthier way of snacking. Has this always been a big passion for you?
Absolutely. Having been hit hard with food intolerances in my early twenties I’ve been on a mission to feel better without having to compromise on the taste and flavours of my favourite foods. This wasn’t easy 15 years ago when the choices were extremely limited but thankfully we have seen a huge shift in the market and we are now bombarded with nutritious plant-based snacks.
I’m always on the hunt for the latest healthy snacks and just want to try everything – regularly frequenting health and wellbeing events (when we were allowed out) to be the first to know about the latest products to market. As a total foodie – it’s a big part of my life.
What do you see as the greatest challenge you face as a small business?
I think just dedicating the time to it that it deserves – with two tiny people around it’s tough to get the balance right at times. I would say there is no challenge bigger than self-doubt, believing in yourself and manifesting where you want to be is paramount for small business owners.
What’s the greatest piece of business advice you have ever received?
Always be authentic, never do something you don’t believe in and have fun!
What motivates you?
My mother is my biggest inspiration – she instilled in me from an early age that you need to put in the hard work, and nothing worth having comes easily. She stayed at home with us for a long time but when she decided to return to work, she rose through the ranks and became a Director of a big international company, 20 years later she is still in role and has so much more to give. So, I feel like I also owe this to my daughters – I want them to grow up knowing that women can be successful business owners, celebrate other women’s achievements and always take action for equality.
Where do you see NomNosh in 3 years?
We have lots in the pipeline for NomNosh and I’m really excited to be working on something new at the moment that could see us venturing down unchartered territory for this little brand – stay tuned!
