These are the new Michelin starred restaurants in the UK & Ireland

Earlier this week, Michelin revealed the restaurants that had made it into the 2023 Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland. Every year, Michelin’s team of anonymous restaurant reviewers award these venues with either one star (“high-quality cooking, worth a stop”), two stars (“excellent cooking, worth a detour”) or three stars (“exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey”).

In 2022, Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume in Cartmel, Cumbria gained an impressive three-star rating, joining elite restaurants such as The Lecture Room & Library at Sketch, Core by Clare Smyth, Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Hélène Darroze at The Connaught in London and Heston Blumenthal’s iconic Fat Duck. While there are no new three-star announcements this year, there were three two-star awards given; Alex Dilling at Hotel Café Royal, Dede in Baltimore and The Ledbury, which won back its two stars at the first ceremony since the restaurant reopened, following its closure during the 2020 pandemic.

20 restaurants collected their first star. London eateries that proudly collected their first accolade include; Italian restaurant Luca in Clerkenwell, St Barts in Smithfield, Cycene in Shoreditch and Taku in Mayfair. Across the rest of the UK and Ireland, Edinburgh picked up stars for Timberyard and Heron, Grace & Savour in Hampton in Arden won its first star, and there were wins for Restaurant Twenty-Two in Cambridge and Pentonbridge Inn in Penton, Cumbria.

In 2021, the Michelin guide added a Green star to its awards, which “recognises sustainable gastronomy and distinguishes restaurants taking responsibility in the conversation of resources and the protection of biodiversity”. This year, four made the cut: Culture in Falmouth, Crocadon in St Mellion, Apricity in London and Osip in Bruton.

This year, 20 new restaurants made it into the 2023 Michelin Bib Gourmands (Named after Bibendum – the Michelin Man) for Great Britain & Ireland. The Bib Gourmand award “highlights restaurants offering good food at competitive prices”. Including Brighton local The Flint House,  and some of our London favourites including The Barbary, Covent Garden and Smokestak in Shoreditch.
