New London Restaurant opening: The Avocado Show.

As one of the world’s most Instagrammed foods and definitely the prettiest of all the green fruits, it should come as no surprise that with the rise of this delicious and not to mention, healthy super-food, the avocado has secured its very own restaurant chain, utterly dedicated to its nutritious goodness and all-round beauty. Sharing the ‘avolove’ since launching in 2017, founders of The Avocado Show, Ron Simpson and Julien Zaal are all about ‘good vibes’ and pouring their passion into creating their signature stunning and delicious dishes for customers, all made from nutritious, sustainable avocados. ‘Our goal is to serve avo lovers in every cool city all over the world’ Ron Simpson tells me, and now London has been added to that very list. 

An avocado advocate myself, I was extremely lucky to visit the brand new Avocado Show restaurant on one of its very first nights in London, just minutes from Oxford Circus, on Princes Street. Famous for being the beloved of all millennials and Meghan Markle alike, a huge concern for the rise in popularity of avocados has been surrounding sustainability and ethical farming. So let me put your mind at ease. Ron and Julien are so dedicated to their cause, that at the very core of their business sits what they pride themselves most on – ensuring that every single avocado they use in their restaurants is sustainably grown at socially responsible farms. So when you eat one of their delicious creations, feel content knowing you are enjoying nothing but genuinely sustainable avocados, as well as food that is nutritious and delicious.

With such a beauty of a fruit as their USP, The Avocado Show would of course be missing a trick if they didn’t make their venue just as ripe for taking the perfect insta-pics. Despite being located in the beating heart of bustling central London, The Avocado Show is hard to miss. Standing out against trendy black window frames is an oversized bright pink bench, with the name of the restaurant hanging above it, just as fit as it is for a theatre in the West End as it is as a brilliant photo backdrop for you – the avocado-loving star of the show itself. Enter the restaurant and you will be met with a botanical green wall of fake ferns and greenery, powder pink seating, funky industrial overhanging lights, fab neon signs quoting avocado-themed quips and a cute bar at the end of this lengthy space, all of which add to that ‘instagrammable’ experience. 

The creativity of The Avocado Show extends far beyond their interiors. The extensive menu will leave you in awe of all the dishes, drinks and desserts that can be crafted from this fruit and if that isn’t enough to blow you away, prepare to be even further aghast in pure avocado adoration when you read their Avocado Show Cookbook, which can also be purchased here. After browsing their cocktail menu, which includes lots of avocado-based drinks, a ‘Guaca Mary’ complete with a nacho on top and an ‘Avo Rita’, an avocado-based margarita, arrived at our table. Not only are they picture-worthy drinks(especially with a neon sign backdrop), but they also hit that sweet and salty ratio of perfection.

Prepare to be wowed when your main course comes, because you will not be able to overcome the overpowering need to photograph it. Deciding on the Salamango Poke Bowl, edible art in the form of mango, avocado, edamame beans and tobiko eggs, this dish was just as delicious and filling as it was pretty. Not forgetting my side of the famous ‘Avo Fries’, chip-shaped avocado coated in panko breadcrumbs and served with truffle mayo, you’ll also find nachos, tacos, salads, pancake stacks and burgers on the menu – each with a glorious avocado twist. 

In case you were wondering, yes, avocados also slip deliciously into the dessert menu too, I recommend the ‘Very Berry Waffle’, an indulgent, chocolate-drizzled waffle stacked with sliced avocado, berries and a bit of caramel biscuit crumble. Who knew that avocados were so deliciously versatile? 

The Avocado Show, at 6 Princes Street, Mayfair, is open 10am-6pm every day.
