Hotel Review: Hart in Shoreditch by Hilton Curio Collection

The Hart Hotel is a newly re-opened (it opened just before lockdown, then had to close, so is basically brand new) hotel in the centre of Shoreditch by the Hilton Hotel’s ‘Curio Collection’, located just a convenient 5-minute walk from Old Street Station and Shoreditch overground. The ‘Curio Collection’ is a group of hotels that epitomize their surroundings and local heritage. You would never know upon visiting that they are from the Hilton brand. By that I mean, there’s nothing wrong with Hilton Hotels, just that their Curio Collection hotels are all individual establishments designed to feel like unique, boutique hotels, not part of a chain.

I’ve visited another Curio Collection hotel in Cambridge, ‘The Fellows House’ where the whole hotel design and vision is centred around celebrating the fellows of Cambridge. It’s a thoughtfully designed hotel with elements throughout that nod to Cambridge’s most well-known intellectuals; David Attenborough, Charles Darwin and Stephen Hawking to name just a few. You can see my full review here.

Tavla Bar Shoreditch

Co-working area in Hart Hotel

When you enter The Hart Hotel in Shoreditch you feel like you’re stepping into an upmarket members’ only co-working club. The contemporary interiors span across the ground floor with a dark wood hot desk, leafy plants and cosy velvet-clad sofas and armchairs leading into the bar, creating a hybrid space for people to pop in and grab a drink with a friend, or use the space for the day to work or hold meetings. The interiors were designed by an internationally acclaimed, but local design studio Fabled Studio who were the executors behind the unique and captivating design that is deeply rooted in showcasing these historic London industries including furniture makers, metal works and silk weavers seamlessly blending these within the modern-day Shoreditch. Use of the hot-desk space is completely free, and you can even get a cocktail from the bar whilst you sit and work, what could be better?

Other amenities at the hotel include a fully equipped and state of the art gym and a large restaurant serving brunch, lunch and dinner.

I’m staying for just one night and I’m really keen to check out my digs so I head up to my room on the fifth floor; a twin room with en-suite bathroom, mini-fridge, wardrobe and all the amenities you need. Wine glasses, a tea and coffee station, flat-screen tv, iron, ironing board, safe – all that jazz. Being up so high in the hotel meant spectacular views over the neighbouring buildings and to my delight (being a light sleeper) it was actually really very tranquil. An oasis of calm amidst the storm, if you will.

365 Magazine Hotel ReviewsIt would be rude not to make the most of the incredible location of the hotel so we head down the road (approximately a 1-minute walk)for a glass of wine and some afternoon nibbles at The Hoxton Hotel, before heading back to the hotel to change for dinner. After our brief interlude and a quick shower and change for dinner, we head down to try a cocktail at the hotel’s ‘Tavla’ bar. Tavla is a Turkish-inspired bar often showcasing  DJ’s and local emerging talent, open daily from 3pm-11pm and serving flatbreads, cocktails and Turkish coffee (you have to try this if you haven’t before, it will change your life). We opted for an incredibly unadventurous but classic cocktail- the ‘Pornstar Martini’. Our lovely waiter made these in a flash without hesitation and they were quaffed shortly after arrival.

Opting to dine out on this occasion, we headed into Shoreditch, ending our night at the nearby ‘Blues Kitchen’ which is one road away from the hotel, meaning just a very short stumble home after a few drinks! Even though we’ve been out, we’re home at a very sensible hour (I must be getting old) and our fluffy pillows provide the perfect cushion for our weary heads.

If you’re looking for a brilliantly-located hotel in Shoreditch for a short stay, stylish hot-desking workspace or a contemporary bar to drop into after work with a girlfriend then head to The Hart Hotel in Shoreditch.
