Meet Ellie Bowers of Bower Events | A Sussex based Events Company

Approaching her third season as a highly successful wedding planner, Ellie Bowers from ‘Bower Events’ chats to us all about her journey, how she set up on her own, and her exciting future projects coming up this year..!

Can you tell us how you started?

I have always worked in the hospitality industry, when I was back in college I worked for a catering company- mainly doing weddings and events and I actually went on to become the event manager for that company. After this, I went on to work for a wedding venue and it was here that I started to work my way through the ranks and eventually I was actually running and planning all the weddings at the venue. Almost from day one working at the previous wedding venue I knew that this was the industry that I wanted to work in, the longer I worked there the more I started to think about the possibility of working for myself, and when I really felt like I knew the ropes and had enough experience I took the plunge and set out on my own. This was equally exciting and nerve-racking but it has turned out the be the best decision I have ever made.

For those who don’t know, can you tell us a bit more about what a wedding planner does?

The role of a wedding planner is actually a very flexible thing. A wedding planner can be someone that helps you organize and plan your whole day including every single tiny little detail, or they can be someone who helps coordinate the day itself and makes sure things run smoothly for you. It is really down to the individual couple and their requirements as to what a wedding planner is to them, depending on what they need and how they see their day going.

There must be something really special about being involved in people’s weddings, is it just like we imagine?

I think that the day itself has so many special parts, naturally. But I personally like the little details that you might not expect, such as seeing the couple really relax with their guests knowing that everything has gone to plan and they do not have to worry about anything, and they can just enjoy their day. I also absolutely love seeing the guests and the couple’s reaction at a wedding when you have worked so hard to put something truly beautiful together for them and they see it all for the first time. For me though every part of this job is special and I am very lucky to do this every day.

What does the future hold for ‘Bower Events’?

As for the immediate future, we have a fabulous Festival style wedding open day on Saturday May 4th at Ditchling Common, W.Sussex. This is in collaboration with Wild Flower Tipis. We have organised a fun and relaxed event targeted towards couples planning their wedding day to come along and chat to a hand-picked selection of wedding suppliers and caterers in the local area. There will be lots of samples & tasters, live music and a bar! Plus, goodie bags!

Asides from this, we are starting to branch out into corporate events and functions. ‘Bower Events’ is not just a wedding planning company, we have the skills, experience and passion that is needed to provide amazing parties, work events, baby showers, destination weddings… anything you can dream of.

We also have a very exciting project coming up that we have been working on recently, it will be ready later this Summer and we can’t wait to reveal all, so definitely keep an eye out for that one. Other than this, the plan is to continue doing what we do best, and to have an incredible season with all our booked couples for the year.
