We are beginning to creep out of our winter hibernation, being pulled along by the joy of lighter evenings as we rapidly approach Spring. We head towards the season of “all-things-new“: new hobbies, new beginnings, and a renewed zest for life. It is time to claim back our lunchtime coffees and evenings spent with friends while the sun still shines. Guildford is full to the brim with local, independent coffee shops. Whether you are a self-proclaimed coffee connoisseur or an “any-cup-will-do” – the shops included in this guide will have something for you.

1.Krema

4 Tunsgate, Guildford, GU1 3QT

Driven by simplicity and quality, Krema serves one of the best cups of coffee in Guildford. It is a personal favourite of mine as their customer service sets them apart from other coffee shops – their welcome is as good as their coffee. You walk in to be greeted by a smiling team and fantastic coffee – what more could you ask for? Krema is also a laptop-free zone; a breath of fresh air in today’s coffee-scape. Walking past the window you see customers deep in conversation or devouring a good book alongside their cake, making it that much more tempting to join them.

2. Harris and Hoole

48 North Street, Guildford, GU1 4TE

Harris + Hoole is dedicated to serving better coffee. Their coffee is seasonally sourced so you can expect different blends carefully curated throughout the year. Their Guildford location has a welcoming, relaxed, community feel. There is plenty of seating (including an upstairs area) and a help-yourself bookshelf so you can read while you enjoy your drink. Their giant black-board calendar outlines upcoming events, including live music and kilo sales. This branch is so much more that your typical coffee chain and is well worth a visit.

3. Canopy Coffee

62 Haydon Place, Guildford, GU1 4NE

Canopy Coffee is an independently owned, speciality coffee house. Designed with the desire to create community through coffee and to bring the speciality coffee scene to the high street. They brew seasonal roasts making it ideal for coffee connoisseurs who are after more than the average cup of joe. The shop has a ready-made outdoor service hatch and an (optional) click-and-collect ordering system making it the perfect place to swing by and pick up your lunchtime coffee.

4. GAIL’s

19 Tunsgate, Guildford, GU1 3QS

Gail’s Bakery is not one to miss; they opened their first shop in London back in 2005 and now have more than 60 stores spread across London and the South. The bakery is to die for with too many mouth-watering treats to choose from – I am yet to try something that has not been delicious. Their coffee is smooth, rich, and not too bitter making it the perfect cup for everyone. They have an outdoor seating area ready and waiting for when the sun starts shining again, or you can sit inside their chic bakery and enjoy the smell of freshly baked cinnamon rolls.

5. Coffee Culture

2 Angel Gate, Guildford, GU1 4AE

Owned by a husband and wife, this independent coffee shop does one of my favourite Coffee Shops In Guildford. They also happen to serve some scrumptious sweet treats as well. To top it off, they serve up Fairtrade coffee and use local suppliers. They have an outdoor seating area in a gorgeous, cobbled street in Guildford, and some of the seats are covered by outdoor heaters making it the perfect spot to sit and relax (whatever the weather!)
