Often referred to as “the best of both worlds”, a move to West Sussex ensures easy access to both the coast and capital. With London only an hour’s train journey from some of West Sussex’s key train stations, and the coast accessible in under an hour from most parts- it’s the ideal location.
Here’s our take on why it’s one of the best places in the UK to live.
1. It’s a stone’s throw from the coast.
The South Coast area of West Sussex offers opportunities to enjoy the sweeping beaches in villages such as Worthing, Littlehampton and Bognor Regis to name a few. West Wittering, pictured below, is one of the most picturesque beaches on the whole South Coast.
2.Easy access to London
If you decide to move to West Sussex, the Brighton to London line is a fast and efficient way to travel into the centre of London in no time at all. If you’re thinking of moving down to a coastal town or city like Brighton or Worthing, you can expect to be in the city within an hour and a half. Gatwick and Haywards Heath are two of the most popular stations for commuters. Meaning perhaps you want to think about moving to their surrounding towns. Burgess Hill, Wivelsfield & Horley are all great choices.
3. Access To Incredible Independent Schools
If you’re planning your house move to West Sussex with children, you’ll probably want to know what schools are available to you. The South East is well known as one of the best areas for education, with West Sussex being home to 25 private schools and numerous state schools.
To run you through a few key statistics, you may be interested to know that for GCSE’S at Brighton College 93.9% of pupils achieved an A or A* in 2018/19. For A Levels across the county, Brighton College also ranked in at Number 1 on the table with over 80% of pupils achieving either an A or A*.
4. Home with character and charm.
There are many types of beautiful character homes in West Sussex. In particular, you will notice those with a steep pitched peg tiled roof and brick and flint walls. Flints are inserted either as cobble or are split open. Sussex flints are arranged in regular rows or fish-scale patterns. The abundant building material has been used since Saxon times and makes every building and village unique.
5. Incredible landscapes and views for walking.
Much of the County is taken up by the South Downs which form a huge part of the Southern part of West Sussex. It’s the third-largest national park in the UK with 4 market towns and 2000 miles of walks – including the well known South Downs Way.
