Every week we delve into some of our favourite instagram accounts to find out more about each individuals personal interior style, tips & tricks and learn more about why they love these parts of their home. This week we spoke to Rebecca Huntley, the lady behind the Insta account, @the_interior_lens.
Bathroom
The main bathroom is my favourite room in our house and was one of the first rooms we renovated when we moved in. For a family bathroom, it was a small room so we made the decision to remove part of the ceiling and add a skylight, which has transformed the space. It brings in so much natural light and the extra height has made it feel much bigger. We live in a period property, so while we wanted a modern bathroom, we also liked the idea of classic design features. We had some panelling built around the room and painted it in Farrow & Ball Railings which really makes the freestanding bath ‘pop’ against the dark walls. We wanted the bathroom to feel calm and tranquil so we created a gallery wall from soft-focus, botanical prints, mainly sourced from Desenio and we used a green and pale pink colour palette for the accessories. The room is filled with plants which also makes the space feel fresh rather than cold and clinical.
Living room
We are fortunate that we have two living areas in our home and we wanted this particular room to be a place to escape to in the evening when the kids are finally in bed. Texture and colour play a big role in this room – there’s a mix of faux fur and crushed velvet and the gold accents really glow against the Farrow & Ball Hague Blue walls and create a sense of luxury. I love eclectic design and blending modern and traditional styles. This room has beautiful mouldings, a grand antique mirror that I sourced online years ago which really contrast with the industrial light fitting purchased from Olivias.com and the bold art prints. The green velvet snuggler from Barker and Stonehouse is my favourite place to relax in the evenings beside the wood-burning stove.
Bedroom and en-suite
Our bedroom and en-suite is another part of our home that incorporates a mix of styles. Before we had children we travelled extensively and we wanted to inject some global influences into this space. We’ve achieved this by adding woven throws, rugs, patterned bathroom tiles from Topps Tiles, a silver drum that I purchased from Home Sense as well as framing photographs from our travels. I love natural décor and wood features heavily in this space. We have oak floors, a beautiful bespoke vanity unit made by simplybathroomfurniture.net as well as an oak chest of drawers that has been in the family for years. Again, it was important to us to also embrace the age of the house and we got a Victorian fireplace put back into the bedroom which has added character and created a focal point.
Guest room
This room has more of a boho feel to it vs. the rest of our house. I love natural inspired décor and wanted to form a space that would feel relaxed. The room is an unusual shape and I decided to create a feature wall using Farrow & Ball Setting Plaster – which is a very light terracotta colour that gives a subtle rustic look. Adding the plant shelf has created a focal point in the room and I love that decorative objects and accessories can be easily switched around here. I also economically updated the bed frame by covering the headboard with Hessian so that it would be more in keeping with the ‘natural’ style of the room. I purchased a paper ceiling light shade from Ikea and some textured cushions from Homesense to complete the look.
